We landed in Dublin from a ferry we caught at Hollyhead, Wales. After spending the night in Dublin, we drove to the western part of the country and then south, making a circle that ended in Dublin again. We stayed the night at Galway (2 nights), Limerick, Killarney, Cork, and Killkenny.

There are fewer thatched roofs in Ireland than there once was, mainly because fire insurance is much higher. The wall around Trim Castle. This wall was used in the filming of the movie Braveheart. Church ruins, cemetery, and tower. Notice the high door to the tower. Monks climbed a ladder to reach the door, then pulled it up when Viking invaders attacked them.

Poulnabrone Dolmen. This is an ancient burial site - about 5,000 years old. It is about 1,000 years older than Stonehenge.
Kylemore Abbey. Built in the 1860's, it is now a girls' boarding school and is run by the Irish Benedictine Nuns
